"This is my home. These are my neighbors. Representing the Eastern Shore isn't a job — it's just who I am."

— Senator Johnny Mautz

I'm Eastern Shore through and through. I attended elementary, middle, and high school in St. Michaels and Easton before graduating from Brewster Academy in 1989. As a kid, I was part of the legendary 1981 Easton Little League team that made it all the way to the Little League World Series. I've worked on construction sites, on commercial clamming and crabbing boats, and have spent most of my life in and around Carpenter Street Saloon, the St. Michaels institution my family has owned since 1979. I've worked just about every job in that building over the years — it's where I learned I'm a terrible cook — and today I'm proud to run it as part of the Eastern Shore's small business community that I fight for every day in Annapolis.

I was raised by my father, Dr. John Mautz, a longtime dentist, and my mother Diana, a local community leader who also built Carpenter Street Saloon into the cornerstone of St. Michaels that it is today. Their legacy of service is one that I carry with me. My brother Dan is a volunteer firefighter and Red Cross emergency responder. I'm the proud father of two wonderful children, Johnny and Evelyn.

I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton and my law degree from Ohio Northern University. After being admitted to the Maryland Bar, I worked as a legislative attorney for the U.S. House Judiciary Committee and as an advisor to Governor Ehrlich in Annapolis.

I was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, serving as Ranking Member on the House Economic Matters Committee. In 2022, I was elected to the State Senate, where I serve as Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee. I remain active in several local boards and organizations — because this community has always come first.

The Eastern Shore isn't just where I'm from. It's who I am.
