On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the Maryland General Assembly convened its 447th session for the annual 90-day legislative term.
One of the most pressing issues we face this year is the projected $3 billion budget deficit for 2026, which does not yet account for possible reductions in federal funding. The Maryland Constitution mandates that we pass a balanced budget, so this deficit must be addressed. The Governor is expected to submit a budget proposal soon, and I’ll be sure to keep you informed as developments unfold.
While balancing the budget is critical, the greater challenge lies in advancing policies that will strengthen Maryland’s economy. Our state continues to lag behind neighboring states in economic growth, and we need to focus on solutions that will drive long-term prosperity.
As always, I remain committed to ensuring the voices of Maryland’s Eastern Shore are heard in Annapolis.
I’ll keep you updated as the 2025 Legislative Session progresses. In the meantime, if there’s anything my office can do to assist you or your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
